Doctors in Gaza strip have detected a first case of polio in 25 years. A 10-month-old boy born during the Israel-Hamas in Deir al-Balah didn’t received any jabs, became the victim of poliovirus, due to the ongoing conflict between Hamas-Israel.
World Health Organization (WHO) reports that before the war, Gaza’s children were primarily vaccinated against polio, the re-emergence of the virus after years highlights the challenges faced by Gaza’s two million residents. Josep Borrell, EU foreign policy chief also showed distress about the abrupt spread of poliovirus in Gaza, particularly among children. He called for an immediate three-day ceasefire to allow the WHO and UNICEF to vaccinate children against the disease as it may spread in the other neighboring countries. The United Nations has unveiled plans to begin a vaccination campaign to stop the spread and protect other families from the ordeal the Abu El-Jedian family faces.
